Tavaria "Varia" Merritt is the founder and leader of Be the Change LGBTQ Community and she is fighting for her freedom from prison after being mistreated, railroaded, and poorly represented as a youth resulting in her incarceration and life+ sentence.
In 2009, Tavaria L. Merritt at the age of 17 years old was accused and convicted of a sexual assault crime that she did not commit, nor was there any evidence, proving Tavaria harmed anybody. She was also mistreated and mislead by the courts. Her attorney Adam Parrish, who represented her at the time took advantage of Tavaria's age and lack of knowing the law or the court system, due to her never being before the face of the law. She was tricked and railroaded by detective Harbarugh in August of 2009 during an interview into saying yes to a crime, which in fact she never committed. Though never before convicted of any offense, Tavaria was sentenced to 225 years at 100 percent without parole-- "left to die in prison and never to see the light of day," according to the words of the judge who sentenced her. Now, her sentence is set to 50 years at 100% without parole due to the courts reducing her sentence after an appeal.
Something has to give, light have to be shown on the truth to Varia's story.
Currently, Varia is working to secure a lawyer to get her case re-opened and re-examined to get a chance at freedom she rightfully deserves.

I feel as a Transgender Woman, I am a QUEEN.
I'm ROYAL, and ONE OF A KIND.
I feel I deserve the best or EVERYTHING.
I'm BLESSED, DIFFERENT, and NOT like others.
I feel I should have the BEST of a man, and the FULLNESS of his worth as a man to a woman.
I am SMART, FUNNY, SILLY, with a GOD GIVING PERSONALITY like no other. I have my moments, but even then, I still like to SPEAK and SMILE.
I am a TRUE LEADER and NOT a FOLLOWER, I feel I was BORN to be an OVERSEER, a COVERING, and a BLESSING to others who receive NO ATTENTION.
I was called to speak to EVERY GROUP, and WALK OF LIFE, no matter who you are, or where you came from, I feel the higher power "JESUS CHRIST" has giving me a word to speak to ALL men on the earth. My LIFE is worth EVERYTHING! And everything that contains me is WORTH SOMETHING.
I am a WOMAN who have seen it all, the good, the bad, sunny days, rain, and the storms.
I know what it's like, because I been there many times, I know what it's like to cry, to hurt, be sad and depressed, I was and have been at a place to where I wanted to give up and just throw in the towel and say whatever, BUT GOD never designed me to just be a woman to say it's over or live a life of "WHATEVER". There is a calling on my life, I have a PURPOSE, GREATNESS in stored for my life and Be The Change Community.
